Awesome two days of sledding in Sicamous over the Easter long weekend with my uncle Dan, uncle Gary, cousin Grant, and his buddy Dayton. The weather was incredible; +15C in the valley with temps hovering around zero up in the hills, with bluebird skies which intensified the suns heat to feel more like +15C! We definitely got some sun on our faces when our helmets were off. What an amazing country when you can go boating, golfing, skiing, and sledding on 15 feet of snow, all in the same day!
We had the hospitality of a great crew from Backus Racing in Marra who hooked me up with a Polaris RMK 600 to ride, and provided us with 2 guided days, one from Trent Backus, (son) and the second day with Everett Backus (dad) and owner of the shop. These guys know their area!!! So we got a really good feel for the terrain and got into some places we definitely wouldn't have gotten into on our own. The second son Tyler runs the maintenance shop and both boys have raced sleds at the professional level and have both been very successful. They do a lot of research and development for Polaris and test the products and modifications they design right there in the mountains around Sicamous. Their shop location, set up, knowledge, and inventory, some of which contains some impressively restored vintage sleds made for pretty cool experience. Uncle Dan was in his glories reminiscing about his past racing days and checking out all the new and old sleds that Everett and the crew had restored and built. I think we could have easily left him there for a few more days!
Great to see uncle Gary out and enjoying some quality play time with his son Grant on their sleds. You can definitely tell Grant has had some time on his sled back home in Saskatchewan riding with his buddy Dayton because they both caught on really quickly to the adjustment of mountain riding, and with some helpful tips from Trent it was quite impressive to watch him, Dayton, and Trent ride their sleds into terrain the rest of us only conservatively played in. Great trip, a good time was had by all! Enjoy the pictures :)
